Mowzey Radio to be laid to Rest Today

Fallen Ugandan artiste Mowzey Radio will be buried today at his home in Kagga village, Nakawuka, some 25 km from Kampala. The proceeding is live on NBS Tv Uganda. Radio died on Thursday at Case Hospital in Kampala while undergoing treatment for injuries suffered during a bar fight in Entebbe.

According to Kampala music promoter Balam , who has been briefing the media since the musician’s demise, a memorial service for the deceased was held on Friday morning and thereafter public viewing of the body was scheduled for the National Theatre in Kampala.

A brief History about Moses Ssekibogo alias Mowzey Radio

Mowzey Radio was born on @25th January, 1985, sat his primary leaving exams in 1996, In 2000, he sat his Form Four Papers and in 2002 he did his high school leaving exams. He joined Leone Islands under Jose Chameleone in 2002 as a back up artist; while joining Makerere University in the same year.

Radio released his first solo song, “Tujja Kuba Wamu” in 2004 while at Makerere University where he completed a degree in psychology, before joining the Leone Island Music Empire in 2005. He started as a backup singer along with Weasel behind Jose Chameleone.He had first success in the year 2005 after he had released a reggae love song called “Jennifer”, the official stage video for that song was filmed by Ugandan music promoter DJ Erycom.

In the year 2006, Mowzey Radio released another song titled “Sweet Lady”, another well received song that introduced him to a large fan base in Uganda. In October 2007, Mowzey Radio, Weasel and Jose Chameleone toured the United States and the Caribbean. Before they returned home, Radio and Weasel had misunderstandings with Chameleone. Following disagreements between Chameleone and the two, they quit the group and formed Goodlyfe Crew, who became successful. Their first song was “Nakutadata”, followed by “Ngamba” and others.

Radio and Weasel had many hits, including: “Ability”, “Akapapula”, “Bread and Butter”, “Hellenah” ft David Lutalo, Juice Juicy, Lwaki Onnumya, Magnetic, Tukikole Neera, Mr DJ, Mukama Talya Mandazi, Ngenda Maaso, Nyambula, Nyumbani, Obudde, Potential, Sitaani, Zuena, and “Neera”, which dominated incessantly on most radio and TV stations in Africa.

 

Radio died on 1 February 2018 at Case Clinic in Kampala Uganda,from a blood clot in his brain sustained in an altercation at a club in Entebbe a few days earlier. His death came after president Yoweri Museveni had donated money to cover his hospital bills; thereafter the president covered all his burial and funeral proceedings.

Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof Nawangwe tweeted “Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo, Reg. No. 04/U/1134; Joined @MakerereU in 2004 and graduated in January, 2008 with a Bachelor of Community Psychology. Mak Convocation has lost a member who has inspired many in his music career. May he rest in peace.”

May he rest in peace. The music industry shall forever remember his kindness and talent. may the fallen soldier rest in eternal peace.
